Today is a “B” day.

Secondary Final Exams: The first exams this morning will be grades 9/10 chemistry and 11/12 Spanish at 8:00 – 9:40 AM. In the second round, the grades will switch as 9/10 will have Spanish and 11/12 will have chemistry from 10:00 – 11:40 AM. Tomorrow’s exams will be I.T. and Social Studies.

Economics Presentation: Katheren will be presenting her economics defense of her learning at 12:30 PM today in the Media lab. The high school is required to attend.

Board of Trustees: There will be a Board of Trustees meeting this morning in the office at 8:00 AM.

General Assembly: There will be a general assembly meeting today at 6:00 PM. All interested stake holders are invited to attend. I will be showing a video and a short presentation about the year in review and the challenges ahead. Changes in our program will be announced this evening.

Casa Hogar Final Donation Drive: “Casa Hogar” is the term used for orphanages in Venezuela. Today is the final day we are accepting donations for them. The boxes are located near the main bulletin board in the school. We are also asking all students to bring a non-perishable food item (rice, flour, can goods) tomorrow morning. The grade 4 students and some mothers will be making the delivery tomorrow morning. A special thank you to Ms. Sherri Moore for all of her efforts with the orphanage this year!

Report Cards: The Media Lab will be open this afternoon for teachers to input their grades and comments on the cards. If you are having problems with this, please let us know. Gary will be inputing the STAR and PAR assessment data onto the cards.

School Leaver Ceremonies: Wednesday evening Katheren will have here leaving ceremony. She is graduating with a Venezuelan Bachiller. The ceremony will consist of a slide show, a speech by her, and then family, friends, and teachers can say a few words about her. It should last about a half hour. She will be having a dinner at her home following the ceremony and many teachers are invited. The same will take place on Thursday evening for Audrey and she will be having a party at her home afterwards.

Teacher Training Time: We will meet tomorrow morning in the Media Lab. Items discussed will be the schedule for Thursday and Friday and student awards.

8:00 – 9:40 AM Mathematics 9/10 & English 11/12

10:00 – 11:40 AM English 9/10 & Mathematics 11/12

All exams will take place in the library and will be proctored by the teachers in charge.

The afternoon schedule will consist of either study for the next exam or a non-intensive academic class. I am proposing the following and are asking secondary teachers to review, comment and improve:

9 & 10’s 5-Social Studies Study Period 6 – Chemistry Study Period 7 – PE (Group Volleyball w/ 11&12’s)

11 & 12’s 5-Espanol Study Period 6- Chemistry Study Period 7- PE (Group Volleyball w/ 9 & 10

Tomorrow’s exams will be chemistry and Spanish.

General Assembly: There will be a general assembly tomorrow evening at 6:00 PM. Everyone is invited to attend. I will be reviewing the accomplishments and challenges of this past year as well as what changes are in store for next year. Parents will have the opportunity to voice their concerns.

Despedidas: The grades 2-3 and grade 4 will be having farewell parties for Susan and Sherri. They will be out of school in the afternoon.

Last night we had a “Black & White” party to celebrate the ending of another school year. It was a pot luck and families provided dishes from around the world. Many included the recipes so if you liked something, you could take the recipe home. With the many countries represented in our community, we sampled much exotic gourmet cuisine. From paella from Spain, to Venezuelan arepas, to Peruvian Papas Huancaina, to watermelon from Iowa, everyone ate too much. Our community was looking their best and people stayed well into the night laughing and talking. Grade 11 student Katheren gave a nice speech about me and my family – thank you for the kind words!

Sixth Grade Field Trip: The sixth grade will be at the Pins Bowling Center in Lecheria. Mr. Flinn has arranged substitutions for his classes today.

Substitutions: Ms. Alejandra will be taking a personal day today. She arranged coverage with Ms. Ann and Ms. Lisa.

Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony: This will take place today at 8:45 AM on the main stage. Teachers with other classes may move to a quieter location.

Black & White Night: In lieu of our traditional International Night, we are having a black and white end-of-year party this evening. The festivities begin at 6:00 PM. To celebrate our international nature, families are asked to provide a dish typical of their country. You may also take a recipe to share with everyone. We’ll have the photocopier ready for those who want to take them home. The dress is semi-formal and only in black and white. We should have a diversity of dishes, as community members are citizens of Portugal, Spain, Italy, USA, Bolivia, Australia, Colombia, Ecuador, Scotland, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Peru, Canada, and of course, host Venezuela

Party organizer Ms. Alejandra Chavez informs me that we are looking for a parent or teacher volunteer to supervise the secondary students who will be entertaining the children in the gymnasium and video room. For the kids, we’ll have the gym open and we will be showing a movie with popcorn in the second Media Lab.

There will also be a raffle of wine and chocolate. There are no entrance fees, just everyone is asked to supply a pot luck dish. The school is providing refreshments and cutlery.

Kindergarten Graduation: Tomorrow morning at 8:45 AM, the kindergarten students will be having their graduation ceremony. They will be graduating from Early Childhood and turning from red shirts into white shirts. The other classes are not obligated to attend, but they are invited.
Yearbook: The 2007-2008 Guacamaya yearbook is completed! Congratulations to all students and teachers that assisted in the production. From looking it over, it is a beautiful keepsake and I highly recommend every family purchasing one. The book will be on sale via the web site Blurb. For those of you leaving, you may pay by credit card and ship it to wherever you are going. For the locals without credit card access, we’ll organize a group order from the school. Ms. Alejandra Chavez will have more information shortly on how to order.

EA Daily Bulletin: Wednesday May 21, 2008

Today is a “B” day.

Director’s Blog: My blog is suffering technical difficulties which may or may not be worked out. In the meantime, I will be using my personal blog, http://www.billkralovec.com and be posting school items. We are hoping to get the Director’s Blog back up and it will serve as an archive of the school from 2005-2008. In the three years I maintained it, I posted 988 times. This will be the last email daily bulletin, so please bookmark my personal blog until June 10th. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Community Time: We are having a community time this morning first period. The Pre-Kindergarten children will be performing the “Butterfly Song” and the Kindergarten will be performing the play, “Jack & the Beanstalk.” Mr. Donahue from the IT department will show Grade 2&3 videos “Guess My Best Friend” and Grades 5 and up, book trailers.

Black & White Ball: The black and white night will take place tomorrow beginning at 6:00 PM. Nadia, Ale, Sherri, and Carmen have been working on the decorations, etc. and will explain more about the night to us during TTT today. Everyone is asked to take a dish for the potluck and to post the recipe for others to see. The recipes have an international theme so please prepare a dish that is traditional of a certain country.

Golf: Claudio continues to hold golf on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school. The last session will be next Wednesday, May 28th.

General Assembly: There will be a general assembly of the community next Tuesday, May 27th in the main hall of the school. I will be discussing the school year in review and changes for next year. All parents, students, and teachers are invited to attend.

Sixth Grade Field Trip: The sixth graders will bowling on Friday with Mr. Flinn.

Kindergarten Graduation: The kindergarten class will hold their graduation ceremonies Friday morning at 8:45 AM.
